Burlington, VT-- Siena got goals from Ted Moran, Eric Morrissey and Greg Pelatti while senior Matt Walsh added an assist as Vermont claimed an 11-3 victory in men's lacrosse action Tuesday at South Burlington High School.
Vermont's Dan Zwirko and Mike Maher each scored three goals and Jamie Kirk added two goals and two assists as the Catamounts moved to 2-1 on the season. The Catamounts opened the scoring in the first quarter on a goal by freshman Doug DeCandia. Siena, 0-3, tied it at 1-1 when Moran scored with 5:01 remaining.
Morrissey scored to knot the game up 2-2 off the lone assist from Walsh. The two teams then traded goals in the second quarter before Vermont reeled off five unanswered tallies to take a 9-2 lead on Zwirko's second of the game from Kirk at 5:55 of the third quarter. Pelatti scored the eventual last goal for the Saints with 5:33 left to play. The Catamounts then scored four straight to seal the win holding the Saints scoreless in the fourth quarter.
In goal, Siena's David Jalette had 10 saves and allowed 10 goals in 49:13 of action, while John Bamford had two saves and allowed one goal in 10:47. Vermont's Mike Gabel had 10 saves for the Catamounts.
The Saints scuffed 22 groundballs to Vermont's 30 and took 26 shots to the Catamounts 34.
Siena plays at Virginia Military on Saturday, March 19th at 1p.m.
