Providence Overpowers Siena 10-3

The Siena College men's lacrosse team opened its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule suffering a 10-3 setback to Providence at Harvard University's Jordan Field (Cambridge, Mass.) on Wednesday, March 12, 2003. WIth the loss the Saints fall to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Friars jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead in the first quarter as Ryan Russell (Montvale, N.J.), David Kole (Montclair, N.J.), Dan Giuntini (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Mark Seyer (Chesterfield, Mo.) each connected on one goal. Skip Dunphy (Manhasset, N.Y.) registered all of his game-high three assists in the quarter on PC's first three goals of the game. Frank Bosco (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) recorded the final assist of the quarter on Seyer's goal with 29-seconds remaining on the clock. Siena's only goal of the quarter came at the 6:39 mark to tie the game, 1-1. Eric Hungershafer scored the goal, while Daniel Wolpert was credited with the assist.
In the second quarter, PC outscored the Saints, 2-0, to take a 6-1 lead into halftime. Jon Meehan (Peabody, Mass.) tallied his first goal of the game with 7:59 on the clock off an assist from Bosco. Kole tallied his second goal of the game off an assist from Meehan with 4:24 remaining in the first half.
The Friars increased their lead to 8-1 in the third quarter as Meehan tallied his second goal of the game at the 10:17 mark on an assist from David Krasnica (Mendham, N.J.). With 2:07 remaining in the quarter, John Hollister (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored his first goal of the game, unassisted. The Saints made the score 8-2 as Eric Morrissey connected with 20-seconds remaining in the third quarter off an assist from Wolpert.
Siena cut the Friar lead to five (8-3) just 1:21 into the fourth quarter
as Wolpert connected on his second goal of the day from Tom Nally at the
13:39 mark, but that would be the final Siena goal of the afternoon. PC
went on to score two goals in the fourth quarter to close out the game,
10-3. Hollister notched his second goal of the day (unassisted) with
12:16 remaining in the game, followed by a Kevin Kornobis goal at the
6:30 mark. Hollister was credited with the assist.
Andrew McMinn (Pgh, Pa.) earned the win in goal for Providence as he recorded 13 saves and allowed just three goals in 60 minutes of action. John Bamford took the loss for Siena. Bamford recorded eight saves and allowed all 10 Friar goals.
Siena returns to action on Saturday, March 22 as they host St. Joseph's University at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. Game-time is set for 7:00 p.m.
