In a game which featured a combined 33 goals and 94 shots, #6/7 Virginia defeated Siena Lacrosse 20-13 in Charlottesville. The 13 goals scored by the Saints were the program's most scored in 24 all-time games vs. nationally ranked opponents.
Zed Williams and Michael Kraus both recorded six points for Virginia (3-0). Williams totaled six points off of four goals and two assists, while Kraus had both three goals and three assists.
Chris Robertson notched his second straight hat-trick with three goals and added one assist for the Saints (0-3). Eric Munn also recorded a hat-trick with three goals for Siena. Dylan Pantalone picked up a team-high six ground balls and went 10-19 (.526) at faceoff.
The Cavaliers started off with a 3-0 lead, but the Saints would come right back and tie the contest up 3-3. Virginia would outshoot the Saints 17-8 in the first quarter and lead 8-3 after the first stanza. Both the Saints and Cavaliers took 12 shots in the second quarter, Robertson scored right before halftime as Siena trailed 13-6 at the half.
Siena outscored the Cavaliers 3-2 in the third quarter, but Virginia held onto a 15-9 lead. The Saints were able to take the advantage in shots over Virginia 15-10 in the final stanza, but the Cavaliers would hold on for a 20-13 win.
Junior goalkeeper Aaron Lewis recorded 11 saves for the Saints. Both the Saints and Cavaliers would go 19-38 for faceoffs.
The Saints continue their four-game road trip with a non-conference tilt against UMass Lowell on Saturday, Feb. 25. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
