John Svec enters his second season as the head men's lacrosse coach at Siena College. The 2012 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year, Svec guided the Saints to the MAAC Regular Season Championship in his first season.

Appointed the ninth head coach in Siena Men's Lacrosse history on July 15, 2011, Svec led the Saints to an 11-5 overall record including a perfect 6-0 mark in the MAAC in 2012.

"We wanted to find somebody who could continue the success we've had and help us win games and championships, and to get things done the right way while keeping the interest of our student athletes at heart," said Director of Athletics John D'Argenio. "We found John Svec and he's the person to help us continue that success here at Siena College."

In his first season at the helm, Svec mentored MAAC Offensive Player of the Year and an Inside Lacrosse Consensus Midseason All-American Bryan Neufeld and MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Tom Morr, who was also just one of 10 finalists nationally for the prestigious Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. Under his guidance, Siena placed a program record five players on the All-MAAC First Team and for a third straight year tied a program record with seven All-MAAC selections overall.

Svec matriculated to Loudonville following a three-year stint as an assistant coach at Hobart College in the powerful ECAC Lacrosse League. During his tenure with the Statesmen, Svec coached six All-ECAC selections, two USILA North/South All-Stars and a USILA Scholar All-American. Additionally, in the spring of 2011 Svec served as an assistant coach for the North team at the 69th Annual USILA/LaxWorld North/South All-Star game.

Svec served as defensive coordinator at Hobart, and his corps ranked 11th nationally in scoring defense in 2009, and finished second in the ECAC in caused turnovers per game in 2010.

Prior to his stint at Hobart, Svec had a proven track record in the Capital Region where he was one of the key architects to UAlbany's rise to power. He served as an assistant coach with the Great Danes from 2001-08, helping guide the program to a 70-43 (.619) record. In his seven seasons, UAlbany made four NCAA Tournament Appearances including a trip to the Quarterfinals in 2007 when the program peaked to a No. 2 national ranking.

The Great Danes excelled on the defensive end of the field under Svec's leadership as coordinator, capped by a No. 12 national ranking in scoring defense in 2008.

A native of Arnold, Md., Svec earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Loyola College (Md.) in 2001. A defenseman for the Greyhounds, Svec participated in four consecutive NCAA Tournaments. Loyola posted an impressive 46-10 (.821) overall record during his playing career and advanced to the Final Four of the 1998 NCAA Tournament.

He is married to the former Lindsey Hart, who served as head women's lacrosse coach at UAlbany from 2006-10.
