ALBANY, N.Y.-- Siena College men's golfer Bryan Bigley (Rotterdam, N.Y.) claimed the fourth annual Capital Stroke Play Championship at Wolfert's Roost Country Club this past weekend. The junior-to-be held off Charley Murphy, Jr. to win the title by four shots.

Bigley started the final day 11 shots ahead of Murphy after setting record-breaking rounds of 64 and 63 on the first day of competition. He posted a 74 on Sunday, giving him a three-day total of 201. Murphy, a 10-time Tri-County Golf Association champion and 1984 New York State Mid-Am champion tallied a 67 for 205. Bigley knocked in 16 birdies and an eagle in the first two days of tournament play. He broke his own record Saturday with a 7-under-par 63.

The victory is the biggest Bigley has had locally, but his golf resume is impressive. "Winning this title ranks near the top of my accomplishments, it is pretty close to my county amateur title as well as the MAAC Championship", Bigley said. "There were a lot of great players there, and it was a great honor to win."

The reigning MAAC Champion set a conference record with a 6-under-par in the opening round of this year's MAAC Championship, and was later named Albany Times Union Siena College Male Student-Athlete of the Year.

Most recently, Bigley won the two man title at Schenectady Municipal Golf Course.
