LOUDONVILLE, NY -- Siena Men's Golf Head Coach Steven Jensen has announced the signing of Jared Nelson to a National Letter of Intent. The Rutland, Vermont native joins the Saints' Class of 2022, and will enroll at Siena College next fall.
"Jared is a very talented player with an extremely athletic golf swing," said Jensen. "His strength is with his driver distance off the tee. We are excited that he will be a Saint this coming fall."
Nelson is the No. 1 rated recruit in his class from Vermont, and is the two-time defending State Individual Champion. He led Rutland High School to the Vermont High School Team Championship last spring, and is ranked 711th in the United States in the senior class according to the Junior Golf Scoreboard.
Nelson is coming off a strong season in which he finished fourth at the 2017 Vermont Amateur with rounds of 67, 66, 72, and 76, fifth at the 2017 New England Junior Invitational (71, 72, 70), and tied for 10th at the 2017 16th Northern Junior Championship (73, 69). He made the pro cut following rounds of 70, 71, and 74 at the 2017 Vermont Open, and was a 2017 US Junior Qualifier at Bulls Bridge -- First Alternate with a score of 70.
Nelson joins a Siena Men's Golf program which is fresh off a second place finish at the 2017 MAAC Championships following the squad's fourth league title in 2016.
