Junior captain Don DeNyse III and the Siena men's golf team stand seventh overall following the first round of action at the Kelly Gutshall Invite in Bethlehem, Pa. DeNyse, who shot a 75 on a snow and rain soaked course on Saturday, is just three strokes behind the clubhouse leaders.

Drexel and Villanova (300) are tied for the lead in the nine-team field through 18 holes. In a bunched field at the top, four teams are tied for third (303) with the Saints (310) still lurking and in the hunt.

DeNyse shot a 36 on the front nine before firing a very respectable 39 on the back-nine as all competitiors battled darkness in addition to frigid and icy conditions into the early evening. Three golfers shot a par-72 on the day to tie for the clubhouse lead.

Freshman David Gushee (77) was second amongst Siena competitors, while Nick Miller and Jeff Smith (79) also shot sub-80 rounds.

The final round of action gets underway Sunday morning at the Saucon Valley Country Club.
