The Siena women's golf team captured sole possession of first place while the men's team ended in a tie for the top spot at the Don Mershon Classic hosted by Lehigh University at Indian Valley County Club in Telford, Pa. today.
The women, who entered day two in second place down three strokes from Hoftstra University, finished with a score of 690, six strokes ahead of the eventual second-place Pride (696). The Saints claimed the top two-spots individually as Laura Woolgar earned a second-place showing by shooting a combined score of 162 (83,79) and Jillian Blanchard finished in a tie for third with a score of 169 (86,83). Woolger's score of 162 was just two strokes shy of the top-scorer. Wagner College (718), McDaniel College (739) and Kutztown University (740) rounded out the top-5.
The men climbed their way back from a third-place finish on day one, thirteen strokes behind Lehigh University, to tie for first place with the host school by shooting a two-day total of 618 (313,305). The eventual number one spot was determined by a tiebreaker with Lehigh University (300, 318) claiming the tournament championship due to the fact that they were the home squad. Bryan Bigley took third-place individually, shooting a 151 (79,72). Fordham University (625), Drexel University (626) and University of Delaware (631) rounded out the top-5.
Both Saints' teams will enter their final tournaments of the season this weekend as the men travel to Binghamton, N.Y. for the Binghamton Tournament while the women head to Piscataway, N.J. for the Rutgers Invitational.
