After two rounds in the Connecticut Cup, the men’s golf team is currently 14th in the 15 team field. David Gushee led the way for the Saints finishing in the top-50 with a score of 153 and is currently 11 strokes behind the individual leader.
Riley McGraw, coming off of an impressive final round in his last competition opened play with a first round score of 75, which was tops on the team. He would finish the first day only one stroke behind his teammate for the team high.
John Van Vranken also finished strong. The senior would shoot a second round 76, which paced the Saints, to finish tied with McGraw for 55th overall.
As a team, the Saints completed the 36-holes in 14th place, but are only 12 strokes behind the top ten.
Three other MAAC schools also participated, with Iona currently in second, three shots behind tournament leader Hartford. Siena is also chasing Fairfield University, who finished sixth, and Canisius College who completed first day play only four strokes ahead of Siena.
Last year, the Saints finished tied for 11th in this same tournament. The Saints will try to make up some ground when they play in the final round tomorrow.
