LOUDONVILLE, NY – St. Bonaventure defeated Siena Men’s Golf 11-5 to capture the inaugural Murray Cup at Schuyler Meadows Club in Loudonville. Juniors Tanner Donovan and James Pelcher each won their individual matchups for the Saints.
The 18-hole event was contested under match play/stroke play scoring with eight player pairings awarded two points apiece for a total of 16 points for the competition. One point was awarded for each pairing to the individual who shot the lowest score, while a second point was awarded for the player who won the most holes.
St. Bonaventure swept five of the eight pairings to account for 10 of their 11 points, while one pairing was split with each golfer winning a point apiece.
Donovan shot 79 to best the Bonnies Dylan Glatz by three shots to win his matchup, while Pelcher fired an 85 to defeat Patrick Sheerer by four strokes. Junior Jack Bellardini and freshman Jack Brown each shots rounds of 78 to account for the lowest Siena score. Brown split his pairing with Corey Long, as Brown won more holes between the two while Long shot a 76 overall to edge Brown by two strokes.
The Saints return to action Monday for the start of the Connecticut Cup in Ellington, Connecticut.
