David Gushee's even par round of 72 propelled Siena men's golf to a tie for fourth place showing following Saturday's First Round of the Cornell Invitational. The Saints will enter Sunday's final round just a mere five strokes off the lead.
Amongst the three competing MAAC schools, the Saints (295) harbor a four stroke advantage over Canisius and are 15 strokes up on Rider.
Binghamton holds a two shot lead over the host Big Red through the first 18-holes in what has been a tightly contested 14-team tournament. Cornell's Matthew Jaye holds the overall lead at -3 following an opening round score of 69.
Gushee sits just three strokes behind Jaye and is tied for ninth overall after firing identical scores of 36 on both the front and back nines. Justin Deitz (73), John Van Vranken (74) and Jess Esposito (76) all added strong rounds.
Tomorrow's final round tees off at 9 a.m.
