Sept. 17, 2017

Siena Men’s Golf wrapped up its opening weekend of competition with a 14-shot improvement in the third and final round of the Cornell Invitational at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. The Saints continued their trend of moving up a spot following each round in finishing 14th overall.

Temple rallied from a third place position following the first 36 of 54 holes to capture the team title. The Owls edged runner-up Yale by one stroke and host Cornell by just two shots in a tightly contested finish. Yale’s James Nicholas won the individual title, shooting -4 for the weekend.

Following consecutive rounds of 309, Siena’s Final Round team score of 295 was ninth best in the 16-team field Sunday. Junior Jack Bellardini and freshman Jack Brown led the Saints with rounds of 73 Sunday, while sophomore Jake Holt fired a 74. Bellardini was Siena’s top finisher at the event, with rounds of 75, 77, and 73.

The Saints return to the course next weekend for Dartmouth’s Quechee Invitational in Quechee, Vermont.
