April 28, 2013

The Siena men’s golf team ended their 2013 season with a eighth place showing in the MAAC Championships.  David Gushee and Louis Walsh both shot their lowest round of the tournament.

Gushee was the leader for the Green and Gold in the final round, scoring a +8, a two shot improvement from his first two rounds.

John Van Vranken improved his Saturday score by three strokes to finish with a cumulative total of 245.

Walsh was three strokes behind him and finished in 37th.

Jess Esposito, usually the top finisher for Siena, struggled in the final round, tallying a +19 on Sunday.

Loyola University made a comeback to take home the title for the sixth straight season.  Fairfield University’s Steve Burak won the individual championship by five strokes.

Siena finished 21 strokes behind seventh place Rider, and only 12 strokes ahead of Niagara.

Three Saints were named to the MAAC All-academic team, as Walsh joined Jim Sullivan and Michael Sutton for that honor.

The Saints graduate four seniors from this year’s group, all four participated in this year’s championship event.
