Saints Tied for Fifth Following Opening Round of MAAC Men's Golf Championships

Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena men's golf team opened their MAAC Championship title defense this afternoon placing in a tie for fifth at the 2008 MAAC Men's Golf Championships in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Don DeNyse III led the Saints into the clubhouse with a First Round score of 74.

Loyola stands at the clubhouse leader after Day One with an overall team score of 299, one shot ahead of second place Fairfield. The Saints are tied with Iona at 12 strokes off the lead at 311.

The Greyhounds' Matt Bassler leads all golfers individually after firing a three under par 69.

DeNyse had identical rounds on both the front and back nines of 37. Teammate Dan Abbondandolo was just one stroke back (75) while senior Chris Haggerty is in the mix as well at 79.

Round Two of the three round championships continues tomorrow morning.
