ORLANDO, FL--The Loyola men's golf team lead five strokes ahead of Siena after the first day of the 2005 jetBlue Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship at the Magnolia Golf Course at Walt Disney.
The Greyhounds had a team score of 287, while the Saints are close behind with a score of 292. Rounding out the field was Rider (293), Iona (308), Fairfield (309), Canisius (312), Manhattan (335) and Saint Peter's (342).
Sophomore Bryan Bigley (Rotterdam, NY) is the leading scorer with a tournament low, 66 (6 under par), followed by last years MAAC individual winner of the McLeod Award, T.J. Shuart (Loyola), Tyler Brewington (Rider), Matt Bassler (Loyola) and David Atkinson (Loyola), all shooting a 70 for the round.
Sophomore Allen Parker (Blandford, Mass.) finished five strokes behind Bigley with a 71. Junior Robby Bigley (Rotterdam, NY) carded a 76, while fellow teammate Jeremy Melchior (Hannawa Falls, NY) and Brad Myatt (Oneida, NY) carded a 79 and 81 respectively.
Championship play resume tomorrow with a 6:52 a.m. tee-off.
