Siena men's golf sits 20th after a rough first round Saturday at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md. John Van Vranken paced the Saints with a first-round 78, one that tied the junior for 73rd in the massive field.
Van Vranken shot back-to-back nine-hole scores of 39, and he's eight back of leaders Brian Dorfman (Georgetown) and Taylor Fuqua (George Washington), who each signed for rounds of 70. No other Saint shot lower than 81, and Siena's total of 321 is 30 shots behind team leader GW, who leads Georgetown and Columbia by just one shot.
Play is scheduled to conclude Sunday with the tournament's second round.
