Saints Surge to Fourth at Lafayette Invitational

The Siena men's golf team had a strong first day which catapulted them to a tie for fourth place overall following the first 18 holes of the Lafayette Invitational concluding earlier today in Center Valley, Pa. The Saints (315) are tied for fourth place in the 21-team field with Villanova and Robert Morris. In a stacked field, both Delaware and Drexel are tied atop a heavily contested leaderboard after shooting first round team scores of 306. Lehigh (311) is five strokes off the pace with the Saints just nine shots off the lead. No individual shot under par through 18 holes. Delaware's Justin Martinson and Robert Morris' Adam Farry currently lead all individuals with +1 rounds of 73 each. Senior captain Dan Abbondandolo led the Saints with a +4 round of 76. He shot a solid 37 on the front nine and 39 on the back nine. Abbondandolo currently stands tied for 11th overall. Fellow senior captain James Gifford also had a strong afternoon, shooting a team-leading score of 35 on the front nine and finished at 79 through 18 holes of play to stand tied for 23rd. Don DeNyse III (80), Nick Miller (80) and Jeff Smith (84) rounded out the Siena contingent. The Lafayette Invitational concludes tomorrow morning.
