Siena Men's Golf Ties For Eight At George Washington Invite

ISSUE, MD - The Siena men's golf team finished tied for eight with a one round, 317 (+29) score at the George Washington Invitational 25-team tournament, played at the par 72, 6,761-yard Swan Point Yacht and Golf Club in Issue, MD. The Saints tied with Hartford and St. John's for eight in the packed tournament.
Junior Robby Bigley led the way for the Green and Gold, finishing tied for first with one-over par 73. It marked the first top finish of the Rotterdam, NY native's collegiate career. Fellow teammate Allen Parker and Bryan Bigley each carded six-over par 78's to finish tied for 31st place in the 130-player field.
Sophomore Jeremy Melchoir posted an 88 for 112th place, while senior Jeremy Youngs rounded-out the team's scorecard with an 89 for 116th place.
Villanova won the tournament with a 303 (+15) score, as the Wildcats had two golfers among the four that tied for the individual crown by carding a 73. The host Colonials, IUPUI and Longwood finished tied for second with 305 team efforts.
The average individual score for the tournament was 81.64, while the average team tally registered 320.44. Villanova's Jonathan Hewett won a playoff over three other golfers for individual medalist honors. All shot one-over 73's.
IUPUI was three shots better than Radford in fifth with 308 and six shots better than Temple, Bucknell and George Washington's B team in a tie for sixth with 314's. St. John's, Hartford and Siena tied for ninth with 319's. They were followed by Bryant University in 12th with 318, Duquesne in 13th with 319, Lehigh and Skidmore College in a tie for 14th with 320's, Mount St. Mary's in 16th with 321, Seton Hall in 17th with 322 and Robert Morris and St. Francis of Pennsylvania in a tie for 18th with 323's.
Connecticut in 20th with 326, Hofstra in 21st with 328, Fordham in 22nd with 329, Hampton in 23rd with 332, Iona in 24th with 339, Lafayette College in 25th with 342 and Quinnipiac in 26th with 344 rounded out the scoreboard.
Siena immediately returns to the links as they take part in the Lafayette Invitational April 8-9. That will be their final tune-up before the MAAC Championships on April 21-24 in Orlando, Fl.
