Fred Shear had just finished shoveling his driveway in Saratoga Springs on Thursday morning when his phone rang.
"I'm one of the few people without a snowblower," Shear, a Waterford native, said with a laugh. "I can use the rest."
Shear, 61, is retired now and hasn't donned his Siena basketball No. 50 jersey since he graduated in 1973.
He left as the Saints' career scoring leader with 1,400 points, holding the No. 1 ranking for 13 years even though he played only three seasons because freshmen were ineligible in that era.
"He could shoot the ball anywhere on the floor and every ballgame he scored well," said Bill Kirsch, who coached Shear his senior year.
