Here's Ten Things to Know About Today's Game
.) Siena continues its three-game road trip and stretch where it plays five of seven on the road to close out December
.) Today marks the third of the Saints' four Gotham Classic contests. Siena fell at Louisville 86-60 on Dec. 6, and 74-69 to UAlbany on Dec. 9 at the Times Union Center. The Saints conclude tournament action Wednesday at Memphis.
.) Siena just wrapped up a grueling 10-game stretch to open its season. The Saints’ first 10 opponents combined to post a 221-116 (.656) record last year. Eight of the 10 won 20 or more games last year, with six playing in postseason tournaments, including four NCAA Tournament teams.
.) Nine of Siena’s first 10 opponents currently possess .500 or better records and hold a collective overall mark of 68-34 (.667). The Saints have played the 37th toughest non-conference schedule nationally.
.) Junior guard Nico Clareth currently ranks ninth in the MAAC in scoring (15.9). He also stands tied for fourth in the MAAC in threes (25), and seventh in free throw percentage (.821). Clareth needs 92 points to become the 45th member of the Siena Basketball 1,000 Point Club.
.) Sophomore guard Ahsante Shivers is averaging 13.5 points the past eight games, after totaling just nine points in his first two contests this season
.) Siena is looking to bounce back from an 81-57 loss at defending America East Champion and unanimous preseason favorite Vermont Monday night. The Saints shot just 37% from the field, including only 6-21 from three in the defeat.
.) Siena and Bryant are meeting for just the second time, with both matchups coming over the past three seasons as part of tournaments in Rhode Island. The Saints captured the first meeting 78-59 on Nov. 21, 2015 behind a 62% shooting effort to win the 2K Classic Smithfield Subregional Championship.
.) Siena has won its past seven games against the 10 programs which currently comprise the Northeast Conference
.) Bryant posted a 12-20 overall record last season and finished tied for fifth in the Northeast Conference at 9-9. The Bulldogs were projected to finish eighth (10 teams) according to the NEC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Bryant enters today having lost six straight, all by double figures, and by an average margin of 22.3 points.
