Siena's massive incoming class just got even larger. Baltimore's Maurice White has officially enrolled at Siena, becoming the sixth scholarship student athlete Jimmy Patsos has signed since taking over the job less than five months ago.
"We're thrilled to have Maurice on board," Patsos said. "He missed the summer and Montreal trip, so he's a bit behind, but he brings great energy to the table and will really contribute on the defensive end."
White (St. Frances Academy), a 6-3 197-pound guard, averaged 17 points and eight rebounds per game in the Baltimore Catholic League as a senior last season.
ESPN.com described White as "a tough, strong and competitive wing that attacks the basket in transition. He does a great job of putting pressure on the recovering defenders. White is a very good mid-range shooter from the high post and mid wing areas mostly off the catch."
St. Frances coach Nick Myles told the Baltimore Sun: "I think he's excited about going to Siena with Jimmy. I think it's a great opportunity. I think it's the right decision for him and his family. He's just a tenacious defender and a person that can score in volumes. He'll definitely bring some scoring and be one of the best defenders right off the bat."
White joins a freshman class that includes: Lavon Long, Javion Ogunyemi, Michael Wolfe, Marquis Wright and walk-ons Mike Wilson and Jimmy Merrill. Coppin State transfer Patrick Cole will sit out this season per NCAA rules and join the active roster in the Class of 2017 next season.
