LOUDONVILLE, NY – For the milestone 20th consecutive season Siena College cracked the top-100 nationally in Division I men’s basketball attendance. The Saints ranked 91st in the nation amongst 347 Division I programs according to the 2016-17 NCAA Men’s Basketball Attendance Report, drawing an average of 5,925 guests over 17 home dates.
"We wanted to say thank you to the fans of the Capital Region,” said Siena College Vice President and Director of Athletics John D’Argenio. “To be among the top-100 in attendance for 20 straight years is a testament to them and their passion for Siena basketball. It also speaks to the connection that our student athletes and players have to the community both as basketball players and as people who take the time to engage with community members."
Siena broke the six-figure mark in home attendance for the 11th time in program history as the Saints hosted a total of 100,728 fans during the 2016-17 season. Siena’s average attendance of 5,925 exceeded that of power five conference schools such as Boston College, Oregon State, Rutgers, Stanford, USC, and Washington State, and was over 1,000 fans per game more than the Division I national average of 4,799.
For the 10th consecutive season the Saints averaged better than 6,000 fans per contest at the Times Union Center, drawing a total of 97,238 spectators over 16 dates in Albany for an average of 6,077. Siena also played one home game during the 2016-17 season at the formerly named Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, New York, defeating eventual Patriot League Champion Bucknell 71-68 on Dec. 17 in front of a crowd of 3,490.
A total of 17,762 fans cheered on the Saints for the team’s three MAAC Tournament games, including a season-high turnout of 7,608 for the championship game vs. Iona. The Times Union Center and Siena are in the midst of a five-year run hosting the MAAC Tournament through 2019.
In 2009-10, Siena established a new program record with 133,505 fans (an average of 7,853) for 17 home games. Siena ranked 66th nationally in attendance that year, tying for its highest national ranking ever (2002-03). That season's 2010 MAAC Tournament drew a record 53,569 fans, highlighted by a crowd of 10,679 for Siena's overtime victory over Fairfield in the title game.
Siena has drawn a grand total of 2,279,523 fans (an average of 6,550) over 348 dates at the Times Union Center since playing its first home game in the facility during the 1990-91 season. The Saints welcomed their two-millionth fan on Dec. 23, 2014 against Cornell, and have drawn crowds in excess of 10,000 on 33 occasions. Siena boasts a 233-115 (.670) all-time record at the Times Union Center, including a 208-93 (.691) mark since making the full-time move to the facility in 1997-98.

Siena is fresh off a 2016-17 season which culminated with the program’s first MAAC Championship Game appearance in seven years. The Saints posted a 17-17 overall record, and tied for third in the MAAC with a 12-8 league mark.
