LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Recent Siena Basketball graduate Lavon Long will begin his professional career in Germany. The Baltimore, Maryland native has signed with the Hebeisen White Wings Hanau which competes in Germany’s second highest professional division, ProA.
“I’m off to Germany to start a new chapter in my life,” Long said. “I am thankful for the opportunity to play professionally and I know the hard work I put in at Siena will help me succeed at that next level. The Saints gave me a chance and I will never forget Siena.”
Long graduated as just one of three players in Siena program history with 1,200 points, 600 rebounds and 250 assists. He ranks 14th in program history in rebounding (692) and 16th in scoring (1,379). Long was the first Division I player in 15 years to make at least seven field goals and 11 free throws in a game without missing when he recorded 25 points at Canisius on January 24, 2016. He was also a 2013-14 MAAC All-Rookie Team selection.
During his senior season, Long ranked sixth in the league in field goal percentage (.522). In his 2016-17 debut on November 20 at UNC Asheville, he scored his 1,000th point. In his junior season, he ranked in the top-20 in the MAAC in scoring (10.6), rebounding (5.5), assists (3.3), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1) and field goal percentage (.483).
Long becomes the third recent Siena Basketball graduate to ink a pro deal in Europe, joining Brett Bisping who signed with Boras Basket in Sweden’s premier league and Marquis Wright who signed with Egis Kormend of Hungary’s top division.
Hebeisen White Wings Hanau is located in Hanau, Germany. Hanau is a town in Main-Kinzig-Kreis. It is a major transport center located within a semicircle of the river Kinzig which flows into the river Main. It is located just over 330 miles from Berlin. The team was founded in 2013 and plays at the Main-Kinzing-Halle arena.
