Siena athletic director John D'Argenio is going to have a Bible-thick pile of resumes on his desk, because he's head-hunting for a terrific job.
Odd as it may sound, the Saints' next men's basketball coach is walking into a much better situation than Mitch Buonaguro did three years ago, when the program was soaring to unprecedented heights.
Buonaguro's three consecutive losing seasons doomed him to Tuesday's firing, which comes a year before his contract would have expired. With attendance falling and losses rising, the school had little choice but to draw up a new gameplan.
Still, it's worth remembering Buonaguro's bar for success was set impossibly high, a problem the new coach won't have.
