Siena men's basketball coach Mitch Buonaguro shook up his staff at the end of a disappointing season last year, leaving assistant Craig Carter as the only holdover from a seventh-place team.
Carter said the moves put everyone in the program on notice, including the players.
"I think what it said to our guys was that Coach (Buonaguro) wasn't just going to go through the motions," Carter said. "Coach was going to do whatever he thought was in the best interest of the program, so that everybody else needed to do what was in the best interest of the program."
Buonaguro brought in Tobin Anderson, Ben Davis and director of basketball operations Tyler Simms, all of whom had success at smaller colleges but had never worked at the Division I level. They replaced Stephen Ott (Lehigh), Adam Chaskin (retired from coaching) and Dave Matturro (Virginia Commonwealth).
The newcomers' lack of Division I experience didn't concern Buonaguro.
