LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Coaches Jimmy Patsos and Ali Jaques met with members of the Capital Region media at the Siena Basketball Media Lunch Tuesday. Watch the FREE ARCHIVE online at SienaAllAccess.com.
Jaques fielded questions from the media from 12:00-12:15 p.m. followed by Patsos from 12:15-12:30 p.m.
Jaques' women's team (7-18, 2-14), coming off a 76-54 win at Saint Peter’s last Saturday, traveled to Western New York to face Niagara and Canisius. The Saints led the Purple Eagles for the majority of the game and by as many as 15 points before Niagara ended the game on a 33-11 run to put the game out of reach. Freshman Meghan Donohue got off to a strong start and finished with a team-high 15 points. Down 21-points early to Canisius, the Saints rallied to bring the game within three points by shooting 50% from the field in the second half and 5-8 from three to cut the lead down to three points. Canisius weathered the storm and defeated the Saints 75-66. Jaques’ team begins a three game home stand starting with the 14th Annual Pink Zone game this Thursday, February 20, starting at 7:00 p.m.
The men's team (11-16, 7-9) has played three straight games in which the game was decided on the final possession. Unfortunately, the Saints were on the losing end of the last two games. After defeating Fairfield 77-75 in Albany on February 10, the team traveled to rival Marist. A costly turnover at the end of the game allowed Marist to spoil the Saints victory on a three-point basket at the buzzer, giving the Red Foxes a 65-64 win. Freshman Marquis Wright finished with career high 20 points. A quick turnaround found the Saints playing Canisius and Preseason Player of the Year, Billy Barron. Rob Poole scored career high 33 points and tied the game on a three point basket with 27 seconds left in the second overtime, eventually forcing a third overtime but Canisius pulled out the tough 92-88 3OT win. The men now play Manhattan this Friday for the Gold Rush Game, where Saints fans wear gold to the game.
