LOUDONVILLE, NY - Senior guard Marquis Wright has earned MAAC Player of the Week honors. This is the third time in Wright's career he has been named MAAC Player of the Week. He was also named College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week on Monday.
The Waldorf, Maryland native averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds while helping lead the Saints to a pair of road wins last week at defending MAAC Tournament Champion Iona and archrival Marist. Against the Gaels, he scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half to help rally the Saints back from a 13-point deficit and snap Iona's seven-game home win streak and six-game winning streak overall. He also scored nine of his points over the final four minutes and sank the go-ahead, game-winning free throws with 12.3 seconds left.
Then against Marist, he scored 16 of his team-high 21 points in the second half and dished out six assists without committing a turnover in an 84-77 win. He was a perfect six-for-six from the free throw line over the final 44 seconds to help Siena take the victory.
Wright won the award earlier this season following the first week of action on Nov. 14 and previously captured the league's top weekly honor on Dec. 28, 2015.
The Saints battle Monmouth tonight at the Times Union Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
