Heading into a pair of key road contests, Siena Basketball Coaches Mitch Buonaguro and Gina Castelli discussed their programs' respective two-game road trips in a special weekly edition of the Siena Basketball Coaches Show Thursday afternoon. The show, which airs locally on WVCR 88.3 FM "The Saint," is archived online at Siena All-Access, and can be listened to free of charge.SienaAllAccess.com, airs at a special time of 3:30 p.m. ahead of tonight's tip offs.
The show begins with the women's portion at 3:30 p.m. featuring coach Castelli and sophomore forward Onyx Mintah. The men's segment airs from 4-4:30 p.m. this afternoon with coach Buonaguro and Evan Hymes.
The Siena men are in still in search of their first conference road win of the year heading into their annually challenging Western New York road trip. The Saints battle Niagara tonight at 7 p.m., before facing Canisius Saturday at 2 p.m. Both games will be televised throughout New York State on Time Warner Cable Sports.
Tonight's matchup is of great importance for the Saints, who currently stand just a game ahead of Niagara for sixth place and the all-important final First Round bye in next month's MAAC Championships.
A win tonight would not only provide the Saints with a little bit of breathing room, but could also go along way in aiding Hymes' candidacy for the conference's Rookie of the Year award. The Purple Eagles' Juan'ya Green and Antoine Mason are arguably Hymes' biggest competition for the award and a strong performance tonight coupled with a season sweep of Niagara could go a long way.
Like the men, the women also enter tonight in sixth place in the MAAC Standings, although the Saints are tied with both Canisius and Niagara for that all-important spot. The Saints take on Saint Peter's tonight at 6 p.m. in Jersey City, before facing six-time defending MAAC Champion Marist Sunday afternoon in Poughkeepsie. Tonight's game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
The Siena Basketball Coaches Show airs weekly throughout the basketball season on Thursday nights from 6-7 p.m. on WVCR 88.3 FM "The Saint." All broadcasts are archived upon their completion online at SienaAllAccess.com.
