Donohue and Ogunyemi Named December Student Athletes of the Month

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Women's Basketball senior forward Meghan Donohue and men's basketball senior forward Javion Ogunyemi have been named Siena College's Leo Dufort Student Athletes of the Month for December. The two are being honored for their success on the field and in the classroom.

This season, the Mogadore, Ohio native ranks first in the MAAC in field-goal percentage (.554). Donohue has played and started in every game in her collegiate career as well as being a three-year captain for the Saints. She has been the Saints leading scorer in six of their 19 games this season as well as being the leading rebounder in 10 contests. She became the 27th member of the Women's Basketball 1,000 Point Club on Dec. 28 against Northeastern. In her four years with Siena, Donohue has been named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team, and Preseason Second Team All-MAAC. She was a three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week honoree during her freshman season.

Donohue holds a 3.2 GPA in management. She is a member of the Siena's 4.0 Club for finishing the fall 2016 semester with a 4.0 GPA. Donohue has been involved with the Saints in the Community as she has participated in the Adopt A School visits and helping team up with Hi5 Sports. During the Adopt A Schools visits, she has talked to schoolchildren about what it is like to be a Division I Athlete.

Javion Ogunyemi

Ogunyemi had played and started in all 21 games this season. He is the third leading scorer for the Saints as he averages 12.9 points per game. Ogunyemi is shooting 50.8-percent from the field, which is second best on the team of those with at least 20 attempts. He was selected as a Preseason First Team All-MAAC. Last season, Ogunyemi was named Second Team All-MAAC and was heralded as the program's first-ever MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. He led the MAAC and ranked 38th nationally averaging 2.09 blocks per game, and 71 total blocks were third highest total in program single-season history. Ogunyemi became the 44th member of the Men's Basketball 1,000 Point Club on Dec. 17 against Bucknell.

Ogunyemi is majoring in management. Ogumyemi has been involved with the Saints in the Community as he has participated in the Adopt A School visits with the men's program. He has helped teach students the importance of good grades and being kind.

The Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award is presented nine times annually (September-May) throughout the academic year. The award recognizes exemplary achievements in both academics and athletics. The late Leo Dufort received a B.S. in marketing and management from Siena in August of 1977. His entire academic career was completed on a part-time basis beginning in the spring of 1961, as a married adult while at the same time raising five children. He passed away suddenly of a heart attack while cross country skiing in February of 1993. His wife Jeanine wanted to do something to immortalize his memory. The original plaque was donated to athletics and the department began the Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award to help carry out his legacy. Dufort graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1954, was a Navy Veteran (USS Bennington) who worked for JL Hammett Co. at the time of his death.
