LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Siena Basketball opened a 20-point cushion before the second media time out and never looked back, defeating Division II Daemen 92-65 at the ARC in the team's lone exhibition prior to the start of the 2016-17 regular season. Senior guard and Preseason Third Team All-MAAC selection Marquis Wright paced a balanced attack, posting a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds to go along with five assists.
Siena shot a sizzling 59.6% from the field and held a decided 45-25 advantage in rebounding in a thorough team win. The Saints were lights out from inside the ARC, connecting on 25 of their 32 two-point attempts (78.1%).
Sophomore forward Evan Fisher came off the bench in just 15 minutes to score 14 of his 17 points in the second half, connecting on six of his seven field goal attempts including 5-6 from distance. Reigning MAAC Sixth Player of the Year Nico Clareth and 2015-16 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and Preseason First Team All-MAAC selection Javion Ogunyemi rounded out Siena's four double digit scorers with 13 points apiece.
The Saints came out gangbusters scoring the first nine points, and raced out to a 22-2 advantage just six and a half minutes in. Siena ultimately led by as many as 24 points in the first half, and claimed a 51-33 lead at the break.
Daemen would get no closer than 14 points thereafter, as the Saints finished with a 20-7 flurry in cruising to a 27-point victory.
Arif Mehmetaj led three players in double figures with 17 points for the Wildcats, which won 19 games and advanced to their conference championship game last season.
Siena now has 11 days to make their final preparations before doing it for real when they tip off their highly anticipated 2016-17 season against Cornell on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Times Union Center.
