BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Steve Burtt and Charles Henson each had 19 points to lead Iona to a 68-51 victory over Siena in the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament Friday night.

Up by 10 at the half, the fifth-seeded Gaels broke the game open with a 20-8 run, capped by Henson's jumper, over the first 6:30 of the second half to make the score 48-26. Burtt ignited the spurt with a 3-pointer and had 10 points in the span.

Henson also grabbed 12 rebounds, while Marvin McCullough added 14 points for Iona (14-15, 10-9 MAAC).

No. 10 seed Siena (6-24, 4-15), which set a school record with 24 losses, was led by Tommy Mitchell's 17 points. Antoine Jordan added 12 points and Brent Sniezyk had 10.

The Saints failed to advance to the semifinal round of the tournament for the first time in eight years.

The Gaels were without their second-leading scorer, Greg Jenkins, who sustained a back injury in the team's win over Siena in the regular season finale last week.

Iona will face No. 4 seed St. Peter's on Saturday.
