LEWISTON, N.Y. (AP) - Juan Mendez scored 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Niagara to an 81-66 win over Siena Monday.

Leading 39-35 at halftime, the Purple Eagles (15-6, 10-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic) went on a 12-2 run early in the second half and pushed their lead to 13 after a 3-pointer by David Brooks at 14:33. Niagara held Siena without a field goal for nearly five minutes during the run.

Siena (4-19, 2-10) countered with a 14-2 run and twice trimmed the lead to one, including at 8:36 after a basket by Jack McClinton that made the score 58-57.

But Niagara followed with a quick 9-0 run to pull away for good. It took the Purple Eagles just 62 seconds to score the first seven points of the run. Mendez, who reached the 2,000-career-points mark, scored seven points during the run.

Brooks finished with 14 points for Niagara, while Lorenzo Miles and Alvin Cruz each added 13.

McClinton scored 25 points for the Saints, who have lost 10 of their last 11 games. Gary Holle added 14 points and Tay Fisher 11.

The Purple Eagles have won six in a row and 15 straight at home.
