Men's Basketball Falls Short to Canisius, 65-57

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Kevin Downey scored 19 points and had six assists as Canisius rallied in the second half and beat Siena 65-57 on Saturday.

Downey's 19 points left him only 20 shy of 1,000 for his career. Jon Popofski scored 13 points, while Darnell Wilson added 12 points and nine rebounds for Canisius (7-13, 5-6 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). DeWitt Doss scored 10 points for the Golden Griffins.

Jack McClinton led Siena (4-18, 2-9 MAAC) with a game-high 21 points. Brent Sniezyk added another 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Siena led at halftime 28-27. Its height advantage resulted in a 20-13 rebounding edge in the first half and the Saints outscoring the Griffs in the paint 16-6.

Canisius took the lead in the second half, opening with a 6-0 run. The Golden Griffins managed 21 rebounds in the period, 14 on the offensive boards, while scoring 14 points off Siena turnovers.

Canisius shot 16 of 19 from the foul line and 39.6 percent, or 21 of 53, from the field. Siena was 24 of 57, or 42.1 percent, from the floor.
