Mike Fish, who just completed one of the great seasons in Siena baseball history, was named Third Team All American and First Team All-Northeast Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Tuesday.
Fish joins Dan Paolini (Second Team - Collegiate Baseball in 2010, Third Team ABCA in 2011) as just the second student athlete in Siena College's Division I history to be named to an All-American team.
Marc Brown (1991 - Associated Press, Men's Basketball), Liz Lops (1994 - WBCA Kodak, Women's Basketball), Tony Asterino (1981 - USILA, Men's Lacrosse) and Brent Herbst (2009, 2010 - USILA, Men's Lacrosse) Bryan Neufeld (2011 and 2012) and Duncan Seale (2011) were all Division I All-American Honorable Mention selections, but Paolini became the first to be included on one of the three teams in June.
Fish was named MAAC Player of the Year after leading the conference in home runs (12), hits (81), runs scored (54), total bases (136) and slugging percentage (.602), ranking second in the league in RBI (50) and doubles (17), and fifth in average (.358) as a senior. He helped the Saints reach the MAAC Championship game for the second time in the past three years this May.
Fish was drafted in the 32nd Round of Major League Baseball's First Year Player's Draft by the Los Angeles Angels on June 8. He has since signed with the organization and will begin his professional career with Peoria in the Arizona League on June 20.
