Loudonville, N.Y. - Siena catcher Dave Hoffmann was named MAAC Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. Hoffmann batted .750 over the weekend as the Saints took the 2-1 series from the Marist Red Foxes.
Hoffmann batted .750 (6-for-8) with an .818 (9-for-11) on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage as Siena took a key early MAAC series from Marist on the road. Hoffmann also called three brilliant starting pitching performances from behind the dish, recording 14 putouts and allowing just one stolen base.
Hoffmann played a key role in the 6-5 series-opening win, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. His sacrifice fly in the third staked the Saints to a 3-1 lead, he then doubled and scored to make it 4-3 in the sixth, singled and scored the game-winning run in the eight, and singled in the ninth, leading to a much-needed insurance run.
In the middle game - a 1-0 Marist win - he was 1-for-1 with a pair of walks, and he finished the series by going 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBI as the Saints won the rubber game 8-4. Hoffmann had an RBI single that put the Saints up 2-0 in the fifth, and then delivered the decisive blow in the game - a two-run double in the sixth that put Siena up 7-0.
Baseball travels to Providence, R.I. on Thursday for a doubleheader against Brown. Game times are expected to start at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
