Senior captain Vincent Citro is the MAAC Player of the Week and freshman teammate Dan Swain is the conference's Rookie of the Week. Citro and Swain each batted .500 in a three-game, season-opening set at Central Florida.
Citro's (Montclair N.J.) highlight performance came in the series finale when he went 4-for-5 with a bases-clearing hit that helped the Saints claim an early 4-0 lead. Citro went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the middle game of the series. The leadoff man for the Saints went 6-for-12 on the weekend with a .538 on-base percentage and a .583 slugging percentage. He was also outstanding in the field, recording 16 putouts and four assists at first base and right field.
Swain (Newton, Mass.) began his Siena career in a memorable way, slugging a home run in his first collegiate at bat at Central Florida that gave the Saints a 1-0 lead. Swain went 6-for-12 at the plate with a .750 slugging percentage in the three-game series with the Black Knights, hitting safely in all three games. He followed up his home run in the opener with two hits and a pair of RBI in the Saturday game, and three hits and a run scored on Sunday. For the week he had RBI with three runs scored.
Siena led in all three games, but was swept at Central Florida. The team will try for its first win of the season this weekend at Charleston Southern.
Canisius' Rohn Pierce was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week after out-dueling All-American Carlos Rodon of No. 5/8 North Carolina State in a 3-0 season-opening win for the Griffs. He was named National Pitcher of the Week Monday as well.
