LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena baseball team was picked to finish fourth in the 2014 MAAC Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league's 11 head coaches. Senior captain John Rooney and junior pitcher Matt Gage were named to the MAAC All-Preseason Team.

Coach Rossi's squad, which returns seven starters from last year, received 86 votes. The Canisius Golden Griffins, the defending MAAC Champions, were picked first after receiving 117 votes. MAAC newcomer, Monmouth (103) was predicted to finish second, followed by Rider (95) to round out the top-three. Marist (77) and Fairfield (69) were picked fifth and sixth by the league coaches, followed by Manhattan (57), Niagara (37) and Saint Peter's (31). Iona (28) and Quinnipiac (26) placed tenth and eleventh, respectively.

The Saints earned two of the 12 Preseason All-MAAC selections headlined by senior captain outfielder, John Rooney. The Syracuse, N.Y. native started all 57 games and batted .284 while finishing tied for second on the team with 59 hits. Rooney enters the season with a six-game hit streak dating back to last season.

Junior pitcher Matt Gage joins Rooney on the 2014 MAAC All Preseason team. Gage, a Gloversville, N.Y. native pitched for the Chatham A's in the Cape Cod League last summer and was a MAAC First Team selection after appearing in 15 games and posted a 6-6 record. Gage set the school record for strikeouts in a single season with 88 in 97.1 innings.

The Saints finished 27-30, 14-9 last season, reaching the MAAC Championship game after defeating Rider, the one-seed 11-8 in come-from-behind fashion before dropping the Championship game 12-11 to Canisius on a heartbreaking walk-off hit-by-pitch.
