Four different players homered as Le Moyne closed out the baseball regular season with a 9-7 win over Siena. The Dolphins (30-15, 22-3 MAAC) enter the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed and riding a four-game winning streak. The loss eliminated Siena from the MAAC Championship, as the Saints finished the season in a fourth place tie with Iona, but lost the head-to-head tie-breaker.
Eddie Harper (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy), Anthony Aquilino (Sicklerville, N.J./Gloucester Catholic), Kyle Brown (Colonie, N.Y./Colonie) and Tony Woods (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) connected for the Le Moyne home runs.
Siena blasted four round-trippers as well. Kevin Roberts (Utica, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame), Shawn Hampton (Belleville, Ill./St. Louis CC), Tony Cipolla (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and Matt Mueller (Santa Clara, Calif./DeAnza College) connected for the Saints' home runs.
Roberts ripped his fifth home run of the season in the top of the third to put Siena on the board, but Harper and Aquilino answered with back-to-back homers in the bottom half of the inning.
Le Moyne jumped out to a 6-1 lead with a four-run fourth. Mike Affronti (Dix Hills, N.Y./Commack) keyed the inning with a two-run triple to center field.
Cipolla belted a two-run home run to left center that cut the deficit to three runs at 6-3 in the sixth. The Saints plated three runs in the eighth on a pair of home runs. Hampton ripped a solo shot and Mueller smacked a two-run home run to pull the Saints to within one run at 7-6.
Woods tacked on a two-run home run in the eighth to put the Dolphins back up three runs in the eighth.
Siena scored on a wild pitch in the ninth, but Le Moyne junior Shane Burke (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) got the final three outs for his first career save.
Le Moyne, which won its 30th game for the fourth time in program history and the third time in head coach Steve Owens' four seasons at the helm, will play #4 seed Iona in the opening round of the MAAC Tournament on Thursday.
The MAAC Tournament opens on Thursday at Duchess County Stadium in Fishkill, N.Y.
