Final Stats

Rick Seltzer homered twice and every starter had a hit as Siena kept rolling Sunday with a convincing 9-4 win at Rider to complete a crucial three-game MAAC series sweep and inch closer to a Tournament berth. Junior Will Hassett went seven and a third innings allowing just two runs to pick up his second victory of the season on the mound.

The Saints broke open a 1-1 game with two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. Seltzer's second home run, a two run blast in the fourth, broke the tie and gave Siena the lead for good. His solo shot in the second knotted the game after the Broncs loaded the bases and scored on a hit batter in the first.

In the fifth, Chris Klepps doubled home a run and Eric Mruczek singled home a pair as the Saints took a commanding 6-1 lead.

After Sean Olson drove home a run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh for Rider, Siena scored three times in the eight on an RBI triple by Nick Messinger, an RBI double by Anthony Giansanti and an RBI single off the bat of Klepps.

Rider scored two times in its final at bat off reliever Dan Lazzaroni. Pinch hitter Nick Wojnowski finished off a 2-for-2 day with an RBI single, and Mo Williams knocked in the final run of the game with a single to right center field.

Hasset had four strikeouts and four walks in his seven and a third innings of work.

Klepps and Messinger each had three hits for the Saints. Mruczek, Seltzer and Giansanti collected two hits apiece. Giansanti also swiped two bases, completing a phenomenal offensive weekend.

Siena has won 13 of its last 15 games to improve to 22-24 on the season and 10-8 in MAAC play. Rider is now 24-20 overall and 12-9 in the MAAC just 16 percentage points ahead of the Saints for the fourth and final MAAC Tournament spot. Siena has six league games remaining - three against last place Iona at home this coming weekend, and three at archrival Marist the following week. The Broncs have only three league games left, completing MAAC play with a three game series at Saint Peter's May 16-17.
