Frank Cebek entered the ninth inning with a shutout, and Chris Klepps homered and drove in five runs as Siena made short work of NJIT 11-2 at Siena Field Wednesday afternoon. It was the seventh win in the last eight games for the Saints. Siena hosts LeMoyne in a three-game non-league series this weekend.
Cebek (2-0) picked up the complete game win, allowing just two runs and six hits to go along with three strikeouts. Just one of the Highlanders ninth inning runs was earned as they did their only damage of the day off just one hit.
Siena meanwhile scored in its first five at bats to grab a commanding 11-0 lead and put the game out of reach.
Klepps launched a three-run home run in the fourth inning, and drove in two of four second inning runs with an RBI double down the left field line.
Jason DeFilippo drove home the game's first run with a bunt single in the first inning. In the third inning, Anthony Giansanti's singled and stole second and third before scoring on a throwing error by the NJIT catcher. The Saints completed their scoring on Don DiPetta's two-RBI double in the fifth.
Catcher Phil Cahill scored three times, as did Klepps. Leadoff man Rick Seltzer reached home twice.
Siena posted 11 hits off four different NJIT pitchers.
The Saints and Dolphins play a doubleheader Saturday at noon and a single game Sunday at the same time.
