OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The New York Institute of Technology snapped a seven-game slide with a double header sweep of Siena College in non-conference action at President's Field today. The Bears (7-20) defeated the Saints (8-29) 6-4 and 4-0.

In game one, the Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Tim Smith singled home Mike MacMillan. Siena responded with a run in the top of the third to tie the game at one. Brent Kunkle reached on a fielders choice, moved over to second on a single by Blake Hanan, stole third and eventually scored on Matt Mueller's ground out to second base.

Jelani Arnold put the Bears up 2-1 in the bottom of the third with his first homerun of the season, a solo shot over the right field fence. NYIT added four more runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 6-1. Pinch hitter Gary Needham delivered a two run double down the left field line and Sean Braithwaite hit a two RBI single.

Siena loaded the bases in the top of the seventh and knocked NYIT starter Andrew Karkoulas out of the game. The Saints scored three runs off of reliever Jamie Roggenkamp with all the earned runs being charged to Karkoulas. Dan Britton replaced Roggenkamp to record the last out of the game and earned his second save of the season.

Karkoulas earned his second victory of the season, pitching six innings, allowing four runs on four hits while striking out seven batters.

Sophomore Chris Perez earned his first win of the season as the Bears shut out Siena 4-0 in the second game. Perez allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out four over seven innings of work.

In the bottom of the third, NYIT jumped on Siena reliever John Lannan for three runs. Mike Kearney hit a sacrifice fly scoring Tim Smith, Garett McDevitt doubled to center field scoring Anthony St. George and Sean Braithwaite singled, scoring McDevitt. The Bears added an insurance run in the fifth as Andrew Karkoulas led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jelani Arnold and scored on Mike MacMillan's RBI single to center field.

St. George and McDevitt each collected two hits on the day. Siena's offensive slump continued, as the team managed just four hits in each game and no Siena player produced a multi-hit game.
