Freshman Joe Drpich homered and doubled twice, and sophomore Taylor Ahearn extended his unearned run streak to 16 innings as Siena knocked off Holy Cross 8-5 on the road Wednesday night. Five Saints had two or more hits, and three drove in two runs.
Holy Cross (20-21) struck first, scoring three unearned runs in the second inning off Ahearn, but Siena took the lead for good with five runs in the third. Siena (13-20) began the inning with four straight singles, and Alex Tuccio's two-run single capped off the rally.
Dave Hoffmann homered in the fifth to make it a 6-3 lead, and Drpich doubled home a run in the seventh to push the advantage to 7-3. Drpich's homer down the right field line in the ninth completed the scoring for Siena. Holy Cross scored single runs in the seventh and ninth.
Ahearn went six innings to pick up his third win of the season, allowing just six hits and the three unearned runs in the second.
The Crusaders used nine different pitchers. Zach Fox suffered the loss.
Siena returns to MAAC action this weekend at Saint Peter's. The Saints have won five straight league games after starting the MAAC season 1-2.
