Brad Elwood had four hits and four RBI and Charlotte completed a four-game weekend sweep of Siena with a convincing 14-4 win Sunday in North Carolina. Mike Fish and Dave Hoffmann each had two hits for the Saints.
The Niners (14-5) led 14-0 after the first six innings before Siena (3-13) finally broke through for a run in the seventh.
Justin Seager (3-for-3), Derek Gallello (3-for-5), Shane Basen (2-for-4) and Leland Clemmons (2-for-4) each joined Elwood with multi-hit games for Charlotte.
Siena used eight different pitchers, and the first six gave up runs. Rick Morales started and gave up just one run in two innings of work. Ed Lewicki and Neil Fryer pitched scoreless frames in the eight and ninth.
Charlotte broke the game open with four runs in the third, three in the fourth and five in the fifth.
Vincent Citro singled home the Saints' first run in the seventh. Fish had his second home run of the series to account for Siena's second run in the eighth, Mike Williams drove home the third with a sacrifice fly, and Hoffman singled home the fourth in the ninth inning.
Siena dropped all four games, but the first two contests were very competitive.
The Saints begin the Northern portion of their schedule Wednesday at NJIT. MAAC play begins next weekend at Fairfield.
