Andres Ortiz hit hid second home run of the season Wednesday
March 12, 2014
Georgia State pounded out 19 hits and scored in seven of eight at bats in a 19-5 win over Siena Wednesday in Atlanta. Justin Esquerra had two hits in the loss for the Saints.
Siena (0-14) used eight different pitchers and all but freshman Chris Amorosi gave up runs.
Brian Fay tied the game at 4-4 in the third with a two-run single to center, but GSU (9-8) scored the next 15 runs.
Nic Wilson homered twice and drove in six runs, leadoff man Chad Prain went 4-for-4 with a home run and six runs scored, and Matt Rose had three hits, three runs scored and a home run for the Panthers.
Andres Ortiz went deep for the second time this season for the Saints - a leadoff blast in the second.
Georgia State scored 34 runs and had 38 hits in the two-game series. Siena's team ERA is now 9.43 this season.
The Saints will try to get on track Friday when they open a three-game series against Ohio State in Columbus. That will complete a stretch of 17 straight road games to start the season, though at this point the scheduled home opening series with Niagara next weekend looks unlikely to take place in wintry Loudonville.
