Charlotte scored five two-out runs in the sixth inning en route to defeating Siena Baseball 10-1 in the series opener in North Carolina. The 49ers batted around during the decisive frame, sending 10 men to the plate while recording six hits.
Six different players recorded one hit apiece for Siena (0-8). Sophomore Yasser Santana delivered a pinch-hit triple in the ninth, and came in to score on a groundout by sophomore Nico Ramos to account for the Saints’ lone run.
Charlotte (5-4) carried a 2-0 lead into the home half of the sixth before breaking the game open. The 49ers reeled off five straight two-out hits highlighted by a two-run double by Hunter Jones and a two-run single by Reece Hampton. Jones drove in four runs in all for Charlotte which pounded out 14 hits.
Josh Maciejewski tossed seven shutout innings scattering three hits while walking just two and striking out six to earn the win for the 49ers.
The series resumes Saturday with doubleheader action set to begin at noon.
