NEW ORLEANS (Mar. 1, 2004)- Dana Tosoni's grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning propelled The University of New Orleans to a 9-3 victory over Siena Monday night at Maestri Field.
Starter John Lannan hit Chris Adams and Tony Gonzalez with pitches to start off the inning. Richard Quihuis-Bell walked to load the bases. After a pitching change, Tosoni cleared the bases with his shot to left field.
Michael Jones (1-1) earned his first victory of this season giving up two earned runs and five hits in six innings. Lannan (1-1) received the loss for Siena giving up six earned runs in four innings of work.
Kevin Roberts hit a triple on the first pitch of the game. Eric Hildenbrand doubled on the next pitch to put Siena up 1-0. A foul out moved Hildenbrand to third and Shawn Hampton plated the second run on an infield ground out.
Mike Forbes led off the third inning for the Privateers with a solo home run to make it a one run game. The Privateers tied the game later in the inning when Jay Yaconetti scored on a Gonzalez fielder's choice.
The Privateers took the lead in the fourth inning when Forbes singled to left field driving in Miles Cabeceiras. The Privateers sealed the victory an inning later on Tosoni's grand slam.
