David Doss fell a single shy of the cycle and drove in three runs to lead South Alabama past Siena 17-3 in Mobile Wednesday. Freshman Anthony Giansanti went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Saints.
USA jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back Billy Kleinschrodt's single scored two runs to start the rally abd Clint Toomey singled home a run later in the frame.
Moises Riviera singled home Siena's first run in the top of the third inning, chasing home leadoff man Jason DeFillipo who singled and stole second.
South Alabama added a run in the bottom of the third on a throwing error, but Siena answered with two runs in the fourth to pull within 7-3. Michael Ambury' ground out scored the first run of the inning and Giansanti delivered a run-scoring single up the middle to keep the rally alive.
The Bulldogs put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Doss and Jeff Cunningham both homered in the inning and when all was said and done, the Saints trailed 13-3. South Alabama added four insurance runs in the seventh inning.
The two teams will complete their three game set in Mobile Thursday at 2 p.m. (3 p.m. EST).
