Matt Quintana retired all 10 batters he faced
Feb. 23, 2014
Charleston Southern plated three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally past Siena 5-3. Mike Allen, Brett Connors and Justin Esquerra all drove in runs for the Saints which have been swept in their first two series of 2014.
Siena (0-6) scored twice in fourth and claimed a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth following an Esquerra run-scoring single. But the Bucs (6-1) chased Siena starter Bryan Goossens in the bottom of the frame to reclaim the lead for good.
Goossens was touched up for five earned runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings. Matt Quintana was superb in relief, retiring all 10 batters he faced.
Andrew Tomasovich earned the win for Charleston Southern, scattering five hits in five innings. All three runs he allowed were unearned as the Bucs committed five errors.
The Saints head back down south next weekend for a three-game series Saturday and Sunday at Radford.
