GENERAL: A converted infielder, Franco has matured into the Saints everyday centerfielder last season. His defensive skill lies in his ability to track down balls in the gap and his flare for making dramatic, run-saving catches. At the plate he is an extremely patient hitter, who does not mind hitting when behind in the count. He is skilled at finding his way on base, and once there, selective and usually successful in his base stealing attempts.
STRENGTHS: Speed, Range, Savvy
AS A JUNIOR: Developed into a solid centerfielder and a tough out at the plate. Franco recorded an outfield-high 104 put outs, making just five errors. At the plate, Franco reached base in 36% of his plate appearances and led the team in triples (2). Franco amassed seven stolen bases in 47 games played.
AS A SOPHOMORE: Saw action in 42 games hitting over .300 for most of the season before finishing at .298. Second on the team in stolen bases (15). Had his best series at Canisius, when he was 8-for-13 and hit safely in six consecutive plate appearances.
AS A FRESHMAN: Batted .222 playing in 16 games. Drove in three runs and scored seven in his freshman campaign.
ROSSI ON FRANCO: “Fausto’s speed is his major asset. He saw a lot of time in centerfield last season and we expect more valuable contributions this season.”
