LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced the men’s and women’s indoor track and field preseason poll and the men have been picked eighth while the women were picked seventh. The Saints are in their third season of track.
Leading the way in the men’s poll was Monmouth who received six of eight first place votes followed by Rider who earned the other two first place votes. Manhattan (46), Iona (44) and Saint Peter’s (25) rounded out the top-five.
Siena was picked eighth with 16 votes and was just behind Marist in seventh who tallied 17 points. Canisius was picked sixth with 22 points.
In the 2016-17 Indoor Track season, the men finished eighth as a team. Evans Kibet led the way for the men with his second place finish in the 800m finals. His time of 1:53.83 broke his own school record and qualified him for the IC4A Championship. It was the highest men’s finish at the MAAC Championship and first IC4A individual qualifier for Siena. Travis Fairlee had earned a top-10 finish and finish ninth overall in the mile.
In the women’s poll, Monmouth also was picked to finish on top with seven first place votes followed by Rider with the remaining two votes. Manhattan (63), Quinnipiac (56) and Iona (44) rounded out the poll.
Siena was picked seventh with 23 points just behind Marist with 37. The Saints were picked ahead of Canisius (17) and Saint Peter’s (14) who rounded out poll in ninth place.
During last season, the women took seventh as a team. Sarah Forman became Siena’s first Division I title winner when she took gold in the 3000m with a time of 9:55.79. The then freshman qualified for the ECAC Championship in the same event.
The Saints will begin their third indoor track season on Saturday, January 13 at the Great Dane Classic at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island, New York.
